Queerdos VIOLENCE

or Brutality builds up within us and cannot be eradicated

We all have violence within us, whether pushed upon us with force, or soaked deep into our skin from childhood. Violence is an epidemic with no limits & no borders. It is cultural. It is learned. It manifests itself. It moves unstoppable, from battlefields to bedrooms

Violent hate crimes against the queer community are ever brutal; hate crimes, unjust punishment and daily assault continue to rise

Queerdos VIOLENCE is an intersectional exploration that delves into the complexities of violence and its far-reaching impacts on queer life. The performance tackles subjects such as domestic abuse, racism, rape culture, BDSM, and more, shedding light on the multifaceted nature of these issues.

Within the performance, profound questions are addressed:

  • What are the violent experiences that shape the lives of queer individuals?

  • How do past experiences continue to influence the present?

  • How do we navigate and confront structural violence?

  • What are our individual responses to violent encounters?

  • How does the pervasive violence embedded in our representation and treatment permeate our lives?

The show consists of original monologues, which provide glimpses into the performers' personal realities. It unfolds within the conceptual framework of a home, symbolizing the violence some of us have grown up with and the behavioural patterns it has imprinted upon us. Each performer inhabits a distinct room within this home, representing their unique narrative of violence. Each room holds stored memories that have looped through their lives, awaiting liberation. Like a house with its foundation and walls, the violence within each performer possesses its own architectural layout, constructed from the ground up.

The performers share a collective intention: to dismantle the walls that separate them and demolish this structure of violence, allowing for something new to emerge. This intention is itself a form of violence, rooted in self-love and forgiveness this time. It is a radical act of dismantling and rebuilding, an assertion of agency and a reclaiming of their narratives.

"Queerdos VIOLENCE" seeks to provoke thought, evoke empathy, and challenge the status quo. It beckons audiences to reflect on their own experiences and confront the various forms of violence that pervade our society. Through this exploration, we aim to inspire healing, transformation, and a sense of empowerment.
